Occupational Therapy Art Workshop- April 2, 9, & 16th 2019

Make Way For Me is excited to collaborate with local artist Yvonne Merton-Fox to offer an art workshop for a small group of peers aged 12-14.  During the three sessions group members will practice mindfulness, coping skills, creativity, and artistic expression.

Self-Regulation Group- January 2019

In this eight-week group, children will work on self-regulation skills and calming strategies with same-aged peers.  Group activities will focus on understanding our bodies, feelings, and emotions through the use of the Zones of Regulation® program.

Introduction to Neuro-Developmental Treatment

Make Way For Me! is excited to host Shelley Mannell, Physical Therapist, for a three-day course for healthcare professionals.

Participants will:
-learn to utilize problem solving and movement analysis within the assessment and treatment process
-develop a basic level of skill in problem solving during facilitation of movement
-have the opportunity to learn through lectures, handling skills labs, treatment demonstrations and in small groups.

Summer Programs 2017

Skill Development Program- July and August

Program Facilitators are available in July and August for one-on-one programming that utilizes occupational therapy techniques, protocols, and strategies, in order to promote skill development in individualized goals.

Social Skills Group- 21-25 August 2017

Children between the ages of 9-13 will have the opportunity to develop and practice important social skills by interacting with peers in both large and small group activities.

Adolescent Social Skills Group- November 2016

For many children, learning to communicate and make friends can be challenging.  Social skills are needed to understand how to engage others in meaningful conversations, by utilizing both verbal and non-verbal communication.  Adolescents between the ages of 10-13 can join us for four sessions to explore the complexities of socializing while practicing skills in a safe group environment.

Summer is an ideal time to work on specific skills without the pressures of school and other activities.  Attending additional skill development programs at Make Way For Me! will help children and youth develop new skills, work on old ones, and keep others sharp for the school year.  Program Facilitators are available in July and August for one-on-one programming that utilizes occupational therapy techniques, protocols, and strategies.  Examples of skills that can be worked on include bike riding, shoe tying, printing, typing, social skills, and anxiety reduction.

Attachment Disorder Training- April 2016

We are excited to be hosting Dr. Sian Phillips and Dr. Dan Hughes May 25-28 for a four-day Attachment Disorder Training workshop based on Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP). This training is relevant for therapists and clinicians who want to increase their skill set of attachment focused treatment.

Tummy Time Pilot Group- April 2016

Join us for a three day Tummy Time program, organized and administered by two Queen’s Occupational Therapy Students.  We will discuss activities to promote healthy development in the areas of vision, hearing, movement, touch, and social/emotional interactions.
